It is easy to take for granted underwear as we know it today, but it bears remembering that in Japan at least,
it is a relatively new introduction to the wardrobe, the outer transformation seen as Japanese women moved from kimono to Western style dress with the advent of Meiji covering up another revolution as the underwear to match entered the fashion lexicon. Likewise Wacoal may be one of the most important brands on the global stage, but it is a relatively young one, founded in 1949 in Kyoto by Koichi Tsukamoto, and growing from a small workshop with only sixteen sewing machines to the brand we know today in a staggeringly short space of time as they brought Japanese sensibilities to the underwear of the West.
Never satisfied with the status quo Wacoal has since won hearts worldwide tackling comfort and fit, going so far as to establish the Kyoto Costume Institute in 1978 to preserve the cultural contribution of fashion. Above all else, it is the beauty of Wacoal as lingerie that cannot be overlooked, and in their luxurious Wacoal DIA line we find them in their element bridging the world of fashion with their distinguished technical prowess, releasing seasonal collections that brim with the frisson of couture-esque detailing and sensuality of the female form. Now in their twenty-sixth season each collection is a feast of craftsmanship and design that exemplifies the Wacoal design ethos and celebrates lingerie as an art form in and of itself. Elsewhere the Wacoal DIA line also features premium basics in a practical yet pleasing range that spans brassieres, shorts, petticoats, belting and waist nippers.
Feel for yourself the unrivaled union between Japanese craftsmanship and sensibilities in store.
