082_01.jpgLocated in the heart of the Nihombashi Mitsukoshi food hall, the Mishoan food market is a world apart from delicatessens or grocers you might be familiar with, pushing to the fore as it does Japan's local delicacies rather than gathering the expected line-up of exotic luxuries that are actually increasingly common wherever you happen to be in the world. Mishoan's goal is to celebrate the huge variety of food on Japan's own doorstep, scouring Japan's prefectures for different regional interpretations of even the most mundane of condiments, allowing visitors to the store an opportunity to embark on a gourmet tour from the comfort of their own kitchens.

Even as Japanese washoku cuisine as a whole has been enshrined as a protected cultural commodity, it can be all too easy to reduce washoku to a single dish such as sushi, but in reality it is its very diversity that should be enjoyed. Accordingly Mishoan does not shine a light on brands in particular, allowing local suppliers to sit comfortably with the big names, and syncing the shelves with the seasons to reflect the cyclical as well as regional nature of washoku.

For those only visiting Japan, Mishoan is the best way to bring the tastes of your travels back home with you, afterall, so much of Japanese food is in the seasoning, condiments and pastes that are easier to transport, but so much harder to obtain beyond our borders. So whether you want to shop for souvenirs, indulge yourself in our huge variety of seasonings, or replicate a particular tare sauce or noodle you discovered on your travels, Mishoan is ready to meet your needs and our staff ready to help you track down exactly what you are looking for, and open new doors to you where they can.
