142_01.jpgHome to their famous Nihombashi Blend, Mikado Coffee, with its rich past and vibrant present, is a Nihombashi icon. A Nihombashi Mitsukoshi shopping or cultural experience would not be complete without a trip to Mikado 142_02.jpgfor its specialty coffee or unique trademarked soft serve ice-cream. The aforementioned Nihombashi Blend has been crafted from Colombian beans at Mikado since it was founded in 1948. An instant hit, it has been a firm favorite with their customers ever since.

At the time, coffee was a very niche market as most Japanese people drank only green tea, but Mikado sought to boost the drink's appeal by showcasing top quality beans in classic drinks through perfected roasting techniques. 142_03.jpgBy studying the art of coffee, their staff effectively became ambassadors spreading coffee through the Nihombashi area. Later, Mikado introduced its signature ice-cream, Mocha Soft, designed to be enjoyed even by children and those who aren't coffee fans.

Unlike many other cafés, Mikado uses different blends of coffee for its drinks and ice-cream. The one chosen for its ice-cream is sumptuously thick, making it rich and milky. Always eager to provide something different, staff serve it with prune syrup, for patrons to cleanse their palate while eating, thus reinvigorating the flavour throughout their experience.

With its bright ambiance, Flagship Nihombashi Mikado Coffee's veranda on the third floor provides a wonderful setting throughout the year for your special coffee or soft serve ice-cream, but if you prefer indoors, settle in amongst the warm and energetic, coffee-themed posters of the second and third floors and let the trained staff cater to your every coffee need. From house blends and specialty coffees to coffee floats and coffee jellies, the true coffee lover will delight in the wide range of options. Downstairs, patrons short of time or keen to soak up the European atmosphere will appreciate the standing self-service café and the chance to buy coffee beans or ground coffees to take away.

Mikado's décor may have changed with the times, from a traditional coffee shop to a bright and stylish space, but the brand's dedication to tradition and quality remains as strong as ever so be sure to experience it for yourself.
